WHY DO I WRITE? I am writing because it is part of my passion - a passion for life and for people. I write about the magic of everyday life, a magic one sees in the capacity of people to rise above their misfortunes. I am particularly fascinated by the resilience of the children around me. Children, of whom many are abused and deprived but their fighting spirit remains remarkable, that, inspires me to write about them. My writing is influenced by the rural, impoverished world around me and by my background as a social worker. Living on a drought-stricken Free State farm keeps one down to earth but this reality becomes magic in my writing about it. My books have already found a home in several countries across the globe. In this way the rest of the world can share in my truly South African stories.
